Polyvagal theory, as proposed by Stephen Porges in 1994, provides practitioners with an understanding of the vagus nerve’s role in emotion regulation.
This workshop will draw on this theory and provide exercises to use with clients to help regulate the autonomic nervous system, enabling a greater feeling of safety and connection.
These exercises are drawn from the work of trauma specialists such as Stephen Porges, Deb Dana, Stanley Rosenberg and Arielle Schwartz.
The workshop is experiential and provides information on Polyvagal Theory and demonstrates exercises developed from this theory and how these can support clients to gain awareness of their autonomic state and find ways to bring themselves back into a place of safety.
About the Trainer - Sue Black
Sue is a BACP accredited counsellor and has delivered training for over twelve years. She enjoys sharing experiences and knowledge in support of development so we can all learn together about the topic.
As part of her own CPD Sue has attended training in Stephen Porges’ Polyvagal Theory and Arielle Schwartz’s workshops on how to apply this in practice. She has a firm belief in the interconnectedness of the mind and body and the importance of working with this in practice to support clients to feel safe enough in the therapeutic relationship, and within themselves, to be able to engage in healing work.
Sue currently teaches with Persona and has her own private practice in Angus.
